• Enhance Mitchell Task Force to Host Updates on Lake Mitchell: An Informational Meeting

    Mitchell, S.D., March 7, 2024 – The Enhance Mitchell Task Force is pleased to announce an upcoming informational meeting titled "Updates on Lake Mitchell." The meeting aims to provide insights into the dredging process for Lake Mitchell, a significant endeavor aimed at improving the health and vitality of the lake.
     
    Scheduled for Tuesday, March 19th, the event will take place at The Corn Palace, located at 604 N. Main Street, commencing at 6:00 PM. Members of the community are invited to attend this free event, where experts from various entities, including the City, Barr Engineering Firm, and Friends of the Firesteel, will deliver presentations outlining the dredging process and its implications.

    "We are excited to host this informational meeting to engage the community in the important efforts to enhance Lake Mitchell," said Jeff Logan a representative of the Enhance Mitchell Task Force. "This event will serve as a platform to share updates and foster collaboration among community members."

    In addition to the informative presentations, the meeting will feature a moderated question and answer section at the end, providing attendees with an opportunity to engage directly with the speakers and seek clarification on any aspects of the dredging process or related topics. This interactive segment aims to foster meaningful dialogue, address queries, and ensure that community members have a comprehensive understanding of the initiatives underway to enhance the ecological and recreational value of Lake Mitchell.
     
    For those unable to attend in person, the meeting will be livestreamed on Mitchell Telecom channel 90, ensuring accessibility to a wider audience. Interested parties are encouraged to mark their calendars and participate in this informative session to learn more about the future of Lake Mitchell and the ongoing dredging initiative.
     
    The ‘Evolve Mitchell’s Recreation, Tourism and Place-Making Task Force’ (referred to as the Enhance Mitchell Task Force) was a recommendation from the Forward 2040 Community Vision and Strategic Action Plan.  Four actions emerged during the community engagement including:
     
    • Building out multimodal infrastructure throughout Mitchell.
    • Cleaning up Lake Mitchell, Revitalizing Downtown and Celebrating the Corn Palace.
    • Positioning Mitchell as the Premier Center-State location for Sports and Recreation.
    • Develop and Promote Unique and Authentic ‘Mitchell Experiences’.
