    Postsecondary

Mitchell is proudly home to two institutions of higher education, where students routinely set and exceed high expectations for their future.

    Dakota Wesleyan University

Dakota Wesleyan University is a private university known for academic excellence in many disciplines.  From business to biology, from digital media and design to education, from athletic training to nursing, and in many other fields, DWU students provide an educated workforce across the region.  With robust music and theatre programs, a variety of conference and lecture series, as well as 15 intercollegiate sports, DWU provides cultural, educational and entertainment opportunities for all interests.  The compact, beautifully maintained campus and new facilities for student and community use make Dakota Wesleyan University the envy of peer institutions.

    Mitchell Technical Institute

Mitchell Technical Institute’s mission is to “provide skills for success in technical careers.” MTI does this by providing high-quality Associate of Applied Science degree and diploma programs in more than occupational areas. While our student population is predominantly traditional, many students belong to nontraditional groups like older learners, economically underserved, Native Americans, and single parents. MTI is a valued partner in the development of South Dakota’s workforce, especially in the utilities, agricultural, communications, construction and manufacturing sectors. MTI also offers programs in business, culinary, computer, and health-related fields. Several programs are available online. Rounding out the services offered are a corporate education office that provides continuing education opportunities for employed individuals and the South Dakota Leadership Academy, a mentor-based training program for technicians who wish to develop their management skills for advancement within their companies. The campus is almost completely new since 2009, located on 80 acres adjacent to I-90. Students can participate in a variety of activities both at MTI and in the Mitchell community making for a well-rounded college experience
