Mitchell Welcomes Tournaments

It’s a weekend full of tournaments in Mitchell! The Mitchell Marlins will host the 2017 Squirts Hockey Tournament at the Mitchell Activites Center and the fun doesn’t stop there! DWU Soccer and the Mitchell Soccer Association will hold the 8th Annual Wesleyan Winter Classic.
Over 100 teams will be in Mitchell this weekend! Get ready for a busy weekend of tournament fun in Mitchell, SD!


Community Awards & Video Presented

At the Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce and Development Corporation Annual Recognition Night, on January 20th, awards were given and the new community video was unveiled.

Community Service Award – Ryan Huber, BankWest

Prestigious National Award for Local Teacher

Amanda Christensen, a 4th grade teacher at Longfellow Elementary in Mitchell, was recently awarded a prestigious national education recognition: the Milken Educator Award. The recognition of her dedication and skilled classroomship at the local elementary school also came with a nice surprise – a $25,000 check.

Lights Shine on Downtown Parade

The Parade of Lights has returned! After a hiatus, the parade – which features floats that are lit with various types of lighting – was hosted by Mitchell Main Street and Beyond. Following the parade, the World’s Only Corn Palace opened it’s doors for free chili and entertainment, followed by the official lighting of Mitchell’s Christmas tree.
