For Tiffany Ellis, life’s path has come full circle in the most meaningful way. After spending her early years in Mitchell, she moved away to pursue personal and professional growth, but eventually found her way back, drawn by both opportunity and a deep sense of connection to the community she once called home.

While Tiffany isn’t currently focused on starting a traditional family, she’s built a strong network of chosen family. Individuals who bring encouragement, support, and a sense of belonging. For her, relationships rooted in positivity are at the heart of life in Mitchell.

Having grown up in Mitchell, the decision to return was shaped by both familiarity and a fresh perspective. The town had always been on her radar, and when the time came to choose a new chapter, Mitchell offered a promising blend of professional opportunity and emotional resonance.

Upon returning, she was met with a mix of nostalgia and newness. She recognized the town’s familiar charm and discovered how it had grown and changed. As with any move, there were adjustments to be made, but settling into a new role at Dakota Wesleyan University helped ease the transition. Now serving as the Academic Success Coordinator in the Academic Success and Career Services office, Tiffany is committed to helping students thrive while contributing to the greater campus community.

Reflecting on the journey, she shared, “Life’s journey has a way of bringing us full circle, and I’m embracing this chapter with an open mind and a focus on making meaningful connections.”

One of Tiffany’s favorite aspects of Mitchell is the active lifestyle the town encourages. With an abundance of sidewalks, bike paths, and scenic trails, the town invites residents outdoors. Whether cycling north of town on Foster, walking/skating around the DWU campus loop, or walking the Avera/Cabela’s loop, there's always a way to stay engaged and connected with nature.

The return has also brought opportunities for community involvement. Events like Cranksgiving, organized by Palace City Peddlers, stood out as a fun way to connect with others and give back. She’s especially looking forward to the Tour de Corn in August. Earlier in the year, attending the DWU homecoming parade was a memorable welcome back into Mitchell’s close-knit community spirit.

When it comes to food, Tiffany has relished the chance to revisit some local favorites while exploring new culinary gems. A seasonal highlight is Zesto’s, a beloved spot known for footlongs and peanut butter malts, which hold a special place in her heart.

Her decision to return to Mitchell was heavily influenced by career opportunities. At DWU, Tiffany is passionate about empowering students and making a positive impact through academic support and career development. The role not only aligns with her professional goals but also offers a way to give back to the community that helped shape her own journey.

Since moving back, Tiffany has actively sought out ways to get involved and form connections. Whether meeting new friends or reuniting with familiar faces, every interaction has been a meaningful step in feeling at home. She remains open to new experiences, always seeking to engage with the community and explore what Mitchell has to offer.

To those considering a move to Mitchell, Tiffany’s advice is simple but powerful: “Get involved and find your people—community is what makes a place feel like home.” She also emphasizes the importance of being open to the learning curve that comes with any move. Each experience is a stepping stone toward growth.

While she believes every town has room for improvement, Tiffany is optimistic about Mitchell’s future—hoping to see continued progress in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.
