Mark Vaux named new exec for Mitchell Area Development Corporation and Chamber of Commerce
MITCHELL, S.D. – Mark Vaux, Fargo, N.D., has been named the new executive director of the Mitchell Area Development Corporation and Chamber of Commerce.
Vaux is a native of South Dakota with 14 years’ experience in economic development. He will assume his position in September, following the retirement of current executive director Bryan Hisel.
“After a nationwide search, we are pleased to have found someone highly qualified and with South Dakota roots,” said Terry Torgerson, co-chairman of the search committee and president of the MADC. “Mark will bring experience and energy to both of our successful organizations.”
Vaux has been the executive vice president of the Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corporation since 2013. In his role, he implemented a business retention and expansion campaign, successfully acquired new funding sources for the organization, recruited multiple new businesses to the Fargo-Moorhead area and led multiple business expansion projects. He has worked with policy and legislation, and helped to create the Workforce Development Council, which resulted in filling 2,000 vacant jobs.
“I’m excited to get back to South Dakota in the economic development and chamber industries,” said Vaux. “Mitchell’s reputation as a great place to live and do business is a credit to the work that has been ongoing. I look forward to continuing to foster growth in the community.”
Previously, Vaux was the economic development and community services director for the City of West Fargo, N.D. (2012-13,) and he was a senior business development representative for the South Dakota Governor’s Office of Economic Development (2004-2012). Vaux also worked in development at the Northern State University Foundation, and he was the northeast area director for Congressman John Thune.
Vaux is a native of Aberdeen and a graduate of Northern State University. He holds certifications from the National Economic Development Council and the International Economic Development Council, and he is a graduate of the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma.
Vaux and his wife, Dawn, have three grown children and seven grandchildren.
