Mitchell, S.D. – Mitchell Area Development Corporation is proud to announce the Governor’s Office of Economic Development has awarded Mitchell a workforce recruitment grant for $50,000.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide financial assistance to our members for recruiting new employees.” said Geri Beck, executive director of the Mitchell Area Development Corporation.

In August, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) announced a workforce recruitment program to inform out-of-state job seekers that South Dakota businesses across the state are hiring.

Communities were invited to apply for funding, which would be distributed based on the partnership commitment and the quality of jobs available.

Beck explained further, “ These funds are to be used for hiring incentives, such as relocation or signing bonuses for out-of-state recruits.”  Beck also noted, “The open position must have a wage of $20 per hour or more.”

Additionally, the funds can be used for education, certification, or training for a current employee to move to a vacant higher-level position.

The matching funds are a 3-way partnership with the employing business, the Mitchell Area Development Corporation, and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development.
