• DWU Appoints Two Employees to New Positions

    MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University announces the appointments of Tom Hoek as the new Director of Student Life and Kyle Hobbs as program director for TRIO Student Support Services.
     
    Hoek, former Director of Golf, will become the new the Director of Student Life at DWU. Hoek earned his B.S. in history at DWU in 2017 and is a 2021 graduate of the university’s M.Ed. program. Hoek will oversee the Student Life Department, working with student life staff and other college employees to create and implement opportunities for co-curricular learning and student growth and development particularly in the areas of leadership, faith, and service.  He will also serve as a student advocate by responding directly to student needs and issues affecting student well-being.
     
    “I am very excited for this new opportunity at Dakota Wesleyan,” said Hoek. “DWU is an amazing community to be a part of and I look forward to continuing to serve our students, staff, and faculty as the Director of Student Life.”
     
    Hoek lives in Mitchell with his wife, Shauna, and their three daughters.
     
    Hobbs was formerly a TRIO Student Success advisor responsible for disability services and tutoring. He also served as head strength and conditioning coach for the university and has taught as an adjunct instructor. Hobbs holds a B.S. from Iowa State University and a master’s degree from the University of Georgia. He will oversee the federally funded TRIO SSS program dedicated to providing academic, financial, career, and personal support services with particular attention to first-generation students, low-income students, and students with disabilities at DWU.
     
    Hobbs is enthusiastic about his new position. “I am excited and honored to accept the program director position for TRIO Student Support Services at Dakota Wesleyan University. I look forward to engaging, supporting, and growing with this campus community. I hope to help these students succeed and graduate from DWU.”
     
    Hobbs and his wife, Ashley, live in Mitchell with their three children.
     
    Both assumed their new roles in July.
