The Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit business that creates possibilities for a prosperous business environment. Chamber Membership unites you with over 500 businesses to stimulate economic vitality. The Mitchell Chamber offers many committees that are actively engaged in the community and focus on business growth and development.

The Mitchell Area Development Corporation aims to improve the economic base of the Mitchell area through the creation of new jobs involving the production or distribution of goods and services exported primarily outside the trade area.

The City of Mitchell is an Aldermanic form of government, with residents represented by an 8-person council and served by a Mayor and City Administrator. Comprised of eight departments and multiple services, the City of Mitchell is committed to providing and maintaining a safe, representative community where families can live, learn, earn, and play.

The Mitchell Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department works to provide the highest quality parks, recreation facilities, and programs in the state. Mitchell Public Safety

The Mitchell Department of Public Safety is structured to coordinate emergency services and public safety staff to work together efficiently to provide the best possible service to the community. The Department includes three divisions: Police, Fire, and Traffic; and is committed to providing the highest quality of services to the people, who live, work and visit our community.

Mitchell Public Safety constantly evaluates and improves efforts to enhance public safety with the goal of improving the quality of life within the Mitchell community, while at the same time maintaining respect for individuals’ rights, property, and human dignity.

Mitchell Post Office

The Mitchell Post Office is open six days a week. In addition to retail postal services, the Mitchell Post Office also offers Passport processing, including photos, and 24-hour PO Box access.

McGovern Library

Named for Dakota Wesleyan University alum and 1972 presidential candidate George McGovern, the McGovern Library is a public library located on the campus of Dakota Wesleyan University. The library features classrooms, meeting spaces, a coffee shop, the campus bookstore, and is attached to the McGovern Legacy Museum.

Mitchell Public Library

The Mitchell Public Library aims to assist its patrons in their pursuit of lifelong learning by providing equal access to informational, cultural, educational and recreational materials in a variety of formats. Enjoy free computer and internet access, developmental activities for children, semi-private spaces for youth, and year-round programming for all ages.

Veteran & Military Services

Davison County Veteran’s Service Office

The Davison County Veteran’s Service Office is here to support local veterans with the following services:

  • Assisting VA Hospital applicants with their enrollment forms.
  • Pension Eligibility Verification Reports for eligible Veterans, Widows and Children.
  • Requests Pertaining to missing Military Records.
  • Request for Certificates of Eligibility for VA Home Loan Benefits.
  • Applications for Headstone or Grave Markers for eligible deceased Military Service Members.
  • Applications for Dependency and Indemnity Compensation.
  • Submission of appropriate Forms/Records for both Veteran’s Pension Claims and Death Pension benefits for Widows and Children.
  • Assisting eligible Personnel with their Education Benefits Claims and accomplishes claim documents for Veterans applying for VA Compensation for their Service-Connected Disabilities.

Military Family Assistance

Military Family Assicance provides a focal point of information through six essential services:

  • Crisis Intervention and Referral
  • Legal Resource and Referral
  • Financial Resource and Referral
  • TRICARE Resource and Referral
  • Military ID Cards and DEERS

LifeQuest

  • Provides services and supports to people with developmental disabilities, creating opportunities that enrich lives. This includes operating Career Connections, an employment resource center which helps people with disabilities obtain employment in the community.

Dakota Counseling Institute

  • Dakota Counseling Institute is a private non-profit community mental health and accredited alcohol and drug abuse service provider serving the residents of south central South Dakota. Services are provided through three distinct programs: outpatient mental health services, Pathways case management services, and Stepping Stones substance abuse assessments and treatments.

Mitchell Family Support

  • A division of Developmental Disabilities through the South Dakota Department of Human Services, Mitchell Family Support aims to ensure that people with developmental disabilities have equal opportunities and receive the services and supports they need to live and work in our community.

Vocational Rehabilitation Services

  • A division of Rehabilitation Services through the South Dakota Department of Human Services, Vocational Rehabilitation provides individualized vocational rehabilitation and supportive services to assist eligible individuals with disabilities to get and keep jobs compatible with their skills and abilities.

The Mitchell Daily Republic is a six-day newspaper covering the city of Mitchell and the surrounding area.

KMIT/KOOL 98

KMIT and it’s sister station, KOOL98, reach listeners in a 16-county area of central and eastern South Dakota. News Director Billy Lurkin reports for both stations.

KORN/KQRN 107

Q1073 is an FM station featuring adult hits from the 80’s, 90’s, and today. News Director J.P. Skelly reports for Q1073 as well as it’s sister stations, KORN Country 92.1 and KORN News Radio 1490.
